The Western Trust will be facilitating a number of information sessions over the coming weeks about Adult Learning Disability Services.

Earlier this year the Department of Health commissioned an independent facilitator, Ms Anne McMurray to undertake 'Speak Easy' sessions with parents/carers groups and the Western Trust.

The purpose of these sessions was to look at areas of unmet needs and to develop a model of involvement for service user and carers in shaping provision within Adult Learning Disability Services.

Rosaleen Harkin is an Assistant Director for Adult Learning Disability in the Western Trust.

She says, "This work has set the direction for the Western Trust to progress Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) and we are now at a point where we need to engage with all stakeholders to test and implement the proposed model.

"In order to do this, the Western Trust will now communicate with all adults, with a learning disability know to the Trust and their carers, inviting them to information sessions to seek their views on the proposed model and ask them to indicate how they would like to become involved further in this work."

Six information sessions have been arranged for the following dates:

  • Monday 23rd October, Fir Trees Hotel, Strabane at 7pm

  • Wednesday 25th October, Waterfoot Hotel, Derry/L'Derry at 7pm

  • Thursday 26th October, Waterfoot Hotel, Derry/L'Derry at 10am

  • Tuesday 7th November, Roe Park Hotel, Limavady at 7pm

  • Thursday 9th November, Omagh Enterprise Centre, Omagh at 10am

  • Thursday 9th November, Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen at 7pm

Anyone interested in attending any of the above events can contact Geraldine Holmes or Ann Gormley - 028 7186 4323.

In addition, the Trust will also share at the information sessions how new investment this year will be deployed.
