Sr Aengus Fitzpatrick, a well known drama teacher in Omagh passed away yesterday morning (Thursday 3 August).
Over the years, she has built up a reputation for her work in the performing arts with young people in Omagh and wider areas across Tyrone.
When she first came to Omagh, Sr Fitzpatrick was a nun at the Loreto Convent and taught RE, English and Drama at St.Brigid's High School.
Then back in 1993, the nun set up Hazel Wand, a theatre school for students from all communities.
It now caters for around 200 pupils from the age of 5 up to 19 years old.
Members of the theatre school can complete GCSE's and A-Levels in Drama and theatre studies, as well as post-grad diplomas and regular feis'.
Prior to her death, the nun spoke to the Ulster Herald about her school.
She said:
"Whilst a lot of my students came with me, I was able to open doors to everyone with a love of art and drama."
"I am not looking for some of my students to make it big in the film world, though some have certainly done well, but my main aim is to build up the confidence of young boys and girls."
"I am immensely proud of my students. Their enthusiasm and talent always gives me great joy."
Sister Aengus' theatre school took to social media to inform local people of her death:
This led to emotional tributes and messages from those who knew the nun:
After being waked in her house Sister Aengus will be brought to Sacred Heart Chapel tonight and all students are asked to lead a guard of honour:
The funeral will take place tomorrow (Saturday 5 August) at 12 noon and the burial will be at Loreto Convent Cemetery, Rathfarnham.
