A vigil has been held for 20 year old Patrycja Wyrebek, whose body was found in a house in Newry on Sunday.

Local residents gathered on Sunday and again yesterday evening for a prayer service, to pay tribute to the young woman.

The discovery of her body was made by officers in Drumalane Park and detectives have started a murder investigation.

A 23 year old man arrested remains in custody and the Polish Consul in Northern Ireland confirmed both he and the victim are Polish nationals.

(MP for Newry and Armagh, Mickey Brady, attended the vigil last night)

Detective Inspector Mark Gibson has made an appeal for information to help in the investigation.

"My thoughts are very much with Patrycja's family and friends at this extremely sad time," he said.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Drumalane Park area of Newry between 8.30pm on Saturday, 1 August and 8.30am on Sunday, 2 August and who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 692 03/08/20."
