A man is being treated in hospital after a serious crash near Killeter on Tuesday.

The man believed to be in his 50s is lucky to be alive after spending the night in a field after he crashed.

He was reported to have been tending sheep in a field around the time of the accident.

It's understood a BMW X3 left the Seegronan Road near the Donegal border at around 10pm on Tuesday.

It rolled out of sight on the rural road and wasn't discovered until the following morning.

The seriously injured driver tried to crawl from the car but only got a short distance due to the severity of his injuries.

The day after the accident, a spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said:

"The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was called at 8:03 yesterday morning following reports of a single vehicle RTC on Seegronan Road, Killeter.

One A and E Ambulance attended and following assessment and treatment at the scene by paramedics, one male was conveyed to Altnagelvin Area Hospital."

It's understood the man remains in Altnagelvin with serious injuries.
