Newtonstewart man Graham McCormack came away with two medals from the British Transplant Games in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

He picked up a gold medal for the shot putt, as well as bronze for his performance in the 10 pin bowling event.

38 year old Graham was also joined by fellow Tyrone man, John Hegarty from the Glebe in representing the Western Trust at the games.

Both men are kidney transplant recipients.

Altogether there were 32 competitors from the Trust area with a total of six medals won, ranging from Bronze to Gold.

A spokesperson for the Western Trust said:

"Each of the participants thoroughly enjoyed the weekend of sport, showing off their competitive side whilst taking part in an unforgettable experience.

"As always we are extremely proud of each of these individuals for conquering their kidney conditions and getting involved in the 2017 Transplant Games."

Una McDonagh is a Renal Transplant Nurse in Omagh. She said:

“On behalf of the Renal Unit in the Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex I would like to congratulate John Hegarty, Graham McCormick and all other participants from the West on participating in the 2017 Transplant Games.

"It was a great opportunity for them to show off their sporting ability and competitive side. They should be extremely proud of themselves; both athletes showed great sportsmanship and performed well in their categories.”
