Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has been alerted to dumping in rural areas.

Household rubbish was spotted at Macken Cross, between Derrylin and Ballinaleck late last week.

It ranged from shoes and tyres to an ironing board.

Councillor Barry Doherty who alerted the council said it has since been cleaned up but that problem is ongoing throughout the county.

Reported in the Fermanagh Herald, Councillor Doherty said:

"To be honest you hear of this happening every couple of months, at the usual spots."

"We're talking a whole lot at the minute about the boardwalk, but you see if you go up the other side of Cuilcagh, and you walk up the back of the mountain from the other side of the boardwalk, with all the little streams and so on, the last time I was up there were fridges and mattresses and everything."

He went on to say that people who do this "don't give one jot about the environment and all their neighbours."
