Omagh charity raise awareness about cat neutering to lower population

A local charity called Clara Cat Neutering are trying to encourage people to neuter both domestic cats and feral cats. 

They're a small local charity, who offer a free spaying and neutering service for domestic pets in the Omagh area and surrounding districts. 

Their volunteers even provide a free 'trap, neuter, return' service for people who have feral cats surrounding their properties. 

Q Radio spoke to Helen McDowell, one of the volunteers who is involved in going out and trapping the cats, bringing them back and neutering them and then setting them free. 

She said that their service not only tries to curb overpopulation, but it also helps prevent diseases that wild cats often spread. 

In terms of overpopulation, a homeless cat can give birth up to 3 times a year.

Therefore, litters of kittens end up roaming the streets without an owner to take them to get neutered, while they continue to interbreed. 

Clara Cat Neutering offer this service for domestic cats as well as feral cats. 

Since they were set up in 2015, they've carried out services for over 8 hundred local feline; over 3 hundred of these were in the last year. 

Although they are a charity and offer a free service, they do depend on local people's donations to keep them going. 

Therefore they're appealing for local people to show their support, so they can continue this service.
