A new public service has been earmarked for Devenish Island.

It comes almost 2 years after the ferry service to the historic island was cancelled due to budgetary pressures.

Before the service was suspended in August 2015, the public was able to access the monastic island on the Lough Erne, from Trory Point.

Now the Department for Communities are trying to resurrect the service and are seeking a trial operation of a licensed ferry service.

The Department's Historic Environment is inviting tenders for the service to operate from May to November.

This is when tourism is at it a high in the area.
