Ulster Unionist MP Tom Elliott has described as a 'tragedy' the death of Dungannon farmer, James Irwin.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP Tom Elliott has expressed his sorrow at learning of the sudden death of a County Tyrone farmer.

The man has been named locally as James Irwin, who was in his thirties. It's believed he died accidentally while working with a combine harvester.

The former Ulster Unionist leader, has now extended his sympathies to the family.

“Whilst the full details are not yet known, I understand that the young man was in his thirties and was planning to get married sometime in the near future," the MP said in a statement.

“This tragedy illustrates that the agricultural industry carries a more significant risk than any other industry and behind these statistics is a story of a grieving family, a community in shock and the need to make farms safer places to work and live in," he added.

“I extend my sympathies to the grieving family at this dreadfully sad time," he said.
