Met office warn of heavy snow in Northern Ireland overnight

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for snow and ice in Northern Ireland.

Stormy weather will bring a cold front from Tuesday afternoon, lasting well into Wednesday morning.

Forecasters say it'll effect northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight, with some areas on higher ground seeing several centimetres of snow.

Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

Authorities are also warning of ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

A Met Office statement said "Expect 1-3 cm of fresh snow even down to very low levels in places, but locally around 5 cm across the Northern Highlands.

"Temperatures dropping below freezing later this afternoon will result in ice forming onto untreated surfaces."
