Man due in court after cross border pursuit

A 29 year-old man is due in court following a cross border police pursuit which ended in Newry.

The driver of the Honda Civic which was detected on the A1 Northbound Carriageway just before midnight on Wednesday is accused of a number of offences, some of which committed before he crossed the border.

The car was found badly damaged a short time later in the Forkill Road area of the city.

He is due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court later.

In a statement yesterday, Inspector Stewart said: “This is another example that highlights the success of our partnership with An Garda Síochána in tackling crime along the border area.

“We would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 2151 26/08/20.
