A 51 year old man has been charged in connection with an investigation into the supply of drugs and firearms in the UK and Ireland.

Thomas Kavanagh, of Tamworth, Staffordshire, was arrested at Birmingham Airport yesterday morning on suspicion of conspiring to import and supply drugs, firearms, and ammunition.

NCA officers, supported by colleagues from An Garda Siochana - Ireland's National Police and Security Service - and Staffordshire Police, conducted a number of searches and recovered a combination torch and stun gun - which is illegal to own and possess in the UK..

Mr. Kavanagh was remanded into custody and is due to appear at North Staffordshire Magistrates tomorrow.

Two men - aged 19 and 20 - who were also arrested have been released under investigation.
