Man arrested after stun gun-type weapon intercepted by border Force

A house in west Belfast has been and a man arrested, searched after a parcel containing a stun gun-type weapon was intercepted by Border Force.

Detectives from the Paramilitary Crime Task Force investigating criminality linked to the INLA have arrested the 33-year-old on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon .

A number of items were seized in the search  and have been taken for further examination.

Detective Inspector Hamilton said: “A search of a house was conducted in west Belfast after a parcel containing a stun gun type weapon was intercepted by Border Force. As a result of the search, the man was arrested and a number of items were seized, which have now be taken for further examination.

“We continue to target the criminal activities of the INLA and all those involved in paramilitary activity and I would ask anyone with any information in relation to criminal activity to contact police on 101 or alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
