High vaccination levels could save us from a pre-Christmas lockdown

It's claimed the high level of vaccination here could well have saved us from a pre-Christmas lockdown.

Nine out of 10 adults in Northern Ireland have now received at least one Covid jab.

More than three million have been delivered since the rollout began just under a year ago.

Scientists are offering some hope that existing Covid vaccines could provide an immune response to the new Omicron variant.

A study looking at booster jabs found all of those being used in the UK are effective at protecting against serious illness.

They didn't specifically look at Omicron, but experts think a third vaccine could play a vital role in fighting off the strain.
