A family from Fermanagh were involved in a hit and run accident on Sunday, while they were travelling to Rossnowlah beach.

They were travelling on the Ballyshannon Road, when the car was struck by a white transit van.

A couple and their two children aged 1 and 4 were in the car, which was turned on its side from the impact of the crash.

The driver left the incident, but the transit van was found 500 metres away where they had fled on foot.

No passengers in the car were seriously injured but sustained bruises and cuts from broken glass.

A spokesman from Ballyshannon Gardai station  said:

"Around 11.55am on Sunday, there was a collision between a car and a van at Lisacholly, Ballyshannon.

The four occupants of the car sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the van left the scene prior to the arrival of the Gardai.

Investigations are still ongoing.

If there was anyone travelling that road, from Belleek to Ballyshannon and has any information, they are urged to get in contact with the Gardai in Ballyshannon, or Crimestoppers on 1800 250025."
