By Q Radio News

European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic is set to attend the Stormont Executive Office Committee today to discuss the Northern Ireland protocol.

Unionist parties and some businesses are opposed to the protocol which they claim is affecting trade between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

Upper Bann MLA Diane Dodds says Mr Sefcovic must take on board unionist anger at current trading arrangements and be more pragmatic.

Mrs Dodds said: “The NI Protocol is opposed by every unionist party. The suggestion by the EU that the Protocol helps to cement stability in Northern Ireland is threadbare.

"Progress in Northern Ireland has been secured by consensus, yet this Protocol has placed a border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom without the consent of anyone in Northern Ireland let alone those of us who hold to the Union.

"I will be urging Mr Sefcovic to understand unionism and work for an outcome that respects Northern Ireland’s place in the United Kingdom and removes the Irish Sea border.”
