Enniskillen student midwife scoops top award

A student midwife from County Fermanagh has recieved a top award for her excellence in midwifery studies.

Lisa Kennedy from Enniskillen has been given the "Dame Mary Uprichard" prize for her "outstanding dedication" to the vocation.

It's the second time that a student at the Sout West Acute Hospital's Maternity Unit has been recognised with the commendation.

Congratulating Lisa Kennedy on her achievement Sister Una Farmer and Sister Mairead McKenna, Maternity Department, South West Acute Hospital said: “We are delighted that Lisa has been recognised by Queen’s University, Belfast for her outstanding dedication and hard work to her midwifery studies and to clinical midwifery skills."

"This is the second time one of our midwifery students has achieved this award, which reflects the dedication of all of our staff in the Maternity Unit to provide the best care for both mums and babies," they added. 

Now a permanent fixture in the hospital, Lisa says she was "shocked and delighted" by the news.

"I would like to express my thanks to all Maternity Staff based in the South West Acute Hospital and Lisnaskea Community for their support and guidance throughout the 18 month programme," she said.
