Enniskillen man Phil Galbraith has completed a cycle round the Danube Rhine region in aid of two local cancer charities.

Phil took on the epic challenge and began in Budapest on the 1st of September to cycle 2,500km.

After 31 long hard days he reached his final destination in Rotterdam on Sunday 1st October, managing to cycle 1,800km due to mechanical issues with his bike and adverse weather conditions.

Below is a post from Phil's cycling facebook page after completing the challenge:

Phil told Q Radio that he decided to do the cycle after his daughter Colleen recovered from breast cancer.

She was diagnosed back in June 2016, and after a very difficult year she got the all clear in August and was able to move to Hong Kong, a move which she was about to make when she was diagnosed.

To date, Phil has raised over £6,000 and will be donating the money to two local charities, Action Cancer and Cancer Connect NI.

He says:

"Both do wonderful work in a whole range of ways; therapies, providing accommodation for cancer patients and their families etc.

"It's a very major journey anyone who has cancer has to go through and they need the support of families and friends and these voluntary organisations who do amazing work and they need funds and that's why I'm here."

Now that Phil has finished his journey, people can go to visit his facebook page and see how it went, there's photos and updates from the whole month of cycling:

He is also still accepting donations that will go to the two charities and they can be given online at 'My Donate' in the link below:
