Three cows have been rescued, after getting stuck in a pit of water at a farm in the North West.

NIFRS WEST crews from Crescent Link and Omagh say the animals had become trapped, with the water level up to their necks.

One cow was so cold and weak from the ordeal she was unable to stand for some time after.

A spokesperson for NIFRS West said:

"The teams worked with the farm staff using lifting gear to get all 3 out, but this poor mite was so cold and weak from the ordeal that she couldn't get her feet under her for some time."

"Primary concern was getting her out of the field where the pit was, so that when she came around she would no longer be in danger of entering it again.

Able to stand for seconds at a time, we eventually got her to a place of safety and blanketed her in hay to warm her up. Glad to say she was coming around slowly but surely by the time we left."
