Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is hosting its second round of Brexit workshops in Omagh today to help businesses consider the risks, challenges and opportunities that may follow.

Last week, the first workshop was held in the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen and included key note speakers from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), Ulster University, the Federation of small businesses and InterTrade Ireland.

Speaking at the event, Councillor Alex Baird said:

“Brexit has become an ever increasing reality following the Prime Minister’s decision and requirement to trigger Article 50 which is designed to take the UK out of the European Union.

"An indication of the on-going challenges has been seen very clearly this week with the need for the UK and the European Union to agree the divorce payment as part of the UK exiting the Union and the future arrangements for the Irish border, before discussions can progress on future trading relationships.”

The second workshop is taking place today from 1.15pm to 4.00pm at the Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh, with confirmed speakers Dr Anthony Soares, Deputy Director at the Centre for Cross Border Studies; Shane Campbell, the Chief Executive, ICBAN and Margaret Harty, Director of Programmes and Business Services, InterTradeIreland.

Chair of the FODC, Councillor Stephen McCann is encouraging members of the public to attend the event:
