The Fermanagh and Tyrone Chernobyl Children's Appeal Group is looking for more host families to look after a child from Chernobyl this summer.

Workers within the organisation will be heading off to Belarus and Ukraine in March, to reveal the news to the children that will be coming to Northern Ireland.

Usually they host over 20 children but this year there's a shortage of families and they can only bring 12 children over.

Q Radio spoke with Eveline Smith who's a group leader at 'Chernobyl Children'.

She's asking for people in the area to come forward and consider looking after one of the children.

Eveline who has visited Ukraine says most of these children come from poor backgrounds with meager living conditions:

The families in areas affected have no other choice than to eat contaminated food and damage their immune systems as it's all they have.

Eveline also went on to explain how bringing the children to Northern Ireland can add 6 years to their life expectancy just through breathing our fresh air and eating our food.

Potentially, by hosting a child here, it could save their life or give them a longer life.
