The Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Sinn Féin's Stephen McCann, has been reported to the Local Government Commissioner for Standards.

The DUP submitted a formal complaint to them following comments made in the Impartial Reporter; where he failed to condemn the Enniskillen bomb.

DUP Group leader Errol Thompson told the Impartial Reporter:

“We have submitted a complaint to the Local Government Commissioner for Standards and asked that the Commissioner investigates the comments by Sinn Fein Chairman Cllr Stephen McCann.

"Cllr McCann's words should be examined in the context of both the Councillors' Code of Conduct and Declaration Against Terrorism.

"The Chairman's failure to condemn the 1987 Enniskillen Bomb and his glorification of convicted IRA terrorist Seamus McElwaine was outrageous and caused hurt to many throughout the District."

The Councillor went on to explain how the Chairman has tarnished the position and how his comments do not represent the council area.

The DUP is appealing for Councillor Stephen McCann to stand down as he is being "arrogant and selfish" by remaining in the position.

The full statement was posted on the DUP Fermanagh and South Tyrone facebook page:
