Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious incident in the Tieges Hill area of Brookebourgh sometime overnight Thursday night, 12 April.

Shortly before 9am on Friday morning, 13 April police received a report that a gas cylinder had been placed below a bridge on the road and set on fire.

Police attended the scene and the object was examined by ATO before being removed for further forensic examination.

A number of families were evacuated from their homes on Friday morning while the incident was ongoing.

Police are working to establish a motive for the incident and Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson is appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on Thursday night or Friday morning.

They're keen to hear from anyone who has information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Enniskillen Police Station on 101, quoting reference 227 13/04/2018.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
