A number of arrests have been made today under the Terrorism Act across Northern Ireland in a major cross border investigation.

The arrests have been made in connection with an ongoing police investigation into the activities of the New IRA.

Garda officers also carried out searches at locations in Dublin, Laois, Cork and Kerry and are part of ongoing operations to combat the activities of the New IRA.

A Garda spokesperson said the searches in the Republic of Ireland "are being conducted by members of the Special Detective Unit assisted by local Gardaí and Regional Armed Support Units."
