Stephen McElwee died in hospital yesterday evening, after being involved in a serious car accident last Thursday night (26th October) in Sion Mills.

He was being treated for his injuries in Altnagelvin before he passed away.

West Tyrone MLA, Michaela Boyle said Stephen had many friends through his work and his social life.

She remembered him for his long love of cars and his family, passing on her heartfelt condolences:

Stephen's friend Sean McGaughey was also seriously injured in the car accident and remains critically ill.

He is currently being treated in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after being transferred from Altnagelvin.

Sean, like Stephen was, is in his early 30's and from the Glebe area.

Police are still appealing for witnesses, regarding the crash and what happened that evening.

A black Volkswagen Passat and a blue Vauxhall Astra were the cars involved and they collided on the Peacock Road at around 11pm (October 26th).

Fire Crews from Omagh and Strabane had to use hydraulic cutting gear to free the young men.

It's understood a man in his 60's was driving the Volkswagen Passat and he managed to free himself from his car.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
