£250,000 investment to tennis courts at Bawnacre Centre

Almost £250,000 is being invested to upgrade the tennis courts and ancillary facilities at the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown. 

The investment, £139,000 by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC) and £110,000 from the Landfill Communities Fund, will see the tennis courts restored to a higher standard for those using the only public courts in the district area. 
 

Commenting on the planned upgrade, the Chairman of FODC, Councillor Stephen McCann said:

"Unfortunately one court is currently closed while the other can only be used when weather conditions permit.

"The significant investment to improve this facility is further evidence of the Council's commitment to delivering on one of the key outcomes of its Corporate Plan to ensure the people of the district are healthy and well physically, mentally and emotionally through the delivery of Leisure, Recreation and Sports facilities across the district."

The extensive renovation works will include new foundations, drainage, new carpeted playing surfaces and a flood lighting upgrade. 

The work commenced on Monday 6th November, and is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2018. 

The Bawnacre Pavilion will remain open during the renovation period and motorists are asked to take particular care while on the premises as construction vehicles will be on site.
