Derry City and Strabane District Council has invested £125,000 into a new road sweeper for Strabane town in an effort to step up street cleaning in the area.

This is the third sweeper for Strabane town and the district, which will allow teams to reach more areas foe mechanical clean up.

The new vehicle has additional brushes to do specific work on roundabouts, traffic islands and other road structures.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC), Councillor John Boyle has welcomed the investment and says it will make a real difference:

“Our street cleansing team do a tough often thankless job, every day of the year, braving all kinds of weather conditions to help keep our communities tidy.

"Having a dedicated road sweeper lorry for Strabane town and two others vehicles for the surrounding villages including Artigarvan, Donemana, Ballymagorry, Sion Mills, Castlederg and Magheramason will be a great asset for the local area.

“It will also help service new housing developments in the District keeping communities clean.

"However, it must be noted that the onus on keeping our streets clean isn’t just on the Council workers. We all have a role to play in binning litter, scooping poop and reporting people who don’t abide by these rules.”
