In football, Magherafelt Reds will re-group tomorrow night (Wed) for training.

They will host Heights FC from Coleraine on Saturday.

At the weekend their run of bad luck continued against Riada despite putting in another decent performance. The final score was 6-3.

In a game where the Reds found the back of the net five times but had two disallowed by the official, they will feel that they should have got something out of this pretty even affair.

Graeme Hawthorne, Sean Martin and Rory McGeehan all on the scoresheet for the Magherafelt men, with both Martin and McGeehan’s earlier attempts being deemed void.

Speaking after the game, Sean Martin who had put in a tough shift said: “If it wasn’t for bad luck, we would have no luck!” referring to the Reds’ recent run of results from games where they should have been coming away with something.

Team: Walsh, Hawthorne, B. Martin, Quinn, McKeever, S. Martin, Chesney, J. Martin, McGeehan, Holmes, D. Martin, Ciaran Martin, Cormac Martin, Kerr, Bigger, Gibson

The Reds will regroup on Wednesday night when they meet again for training.

They’re preparing for the visit of Heights FC from Coleraine on Saturday.

Currently increasing squad numbers with some new faces coming in over the winter period should give some extra cover for positions throughout the park.

Seeing some experienced players coming on board should give the Reds confidence going forward to try and turn their season around. The recent resigning of Declan Martin has provided a much needed pacey forward for the Magherafelt and they would still be keen to bring in a fast strike partner for the young goal scorer.

Training at Meadowbank 3G on Wednesday evenings is from 7pm to 9pm and everyone is more than welcome to come and try out.

Teams in Coleraine and District League have the advantage of being able to sign players through until 31st March.
