Glentoran fans are throwing their weight behind manager Mick McDermott in a residency row that threatens to split up his young family ...

The McDermotts have spent the past 12 years in Dubai before Mick’s return to his native Belfast to take over at the Oval.

He and his children automatically qualify to stay here but his American wife Karla must apply for a visa.

The protracted process means she has to leave for Dubai tomorrow while her application is considered.

Even if that’s successful, it could be months before she’s reunited with her loved ones.

Hundreds of Glens supporters have signed an online petition calling for the UK Home Office to grant Karla residency in Northern Ireland.

The manager who has helped transform the east Belfast club's fortunes says he appreciates everything that's being done at a difficult time for the family ...

Mick admits if Karla's application is ultimately unsuccessful "all options would have to be considered" but he's "confident that won't be the case."
