Woman in her 60's dies in Co. Down house fire

A woman in her 60's has died in a house fire in County Down.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the Ballymenoch Roach in Holywood yesterday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Local councillor Stephen Dunne has offered his condolences:

 A PSNI spokesperson said:

 "Police can confirm that a woman in her 60s has died in a fire at a property on Ballymenoch Road in Holywood on Friday 10 May."

"The cause of the fire, which was reported at around 4.30pm, has not yet been determined and will be subject to investigation, in liaison with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service."

 

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Spokesperson said:

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service received a call to a house fire in a detached property at Ballymenoch Road Holywood at 1627 hours on the 10th May 2019. 

"Appliances from Holywood and Knock Fire Stations attended the incident.  Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly brought the fire under control."

"Unfortunately a woman has lost her life in this tragic incident. "

"The thoughts and sympathies of all those in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service are with her family and friends of the deceased.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
