Theresa May expected to call on EU to 'evolve' position on Irish backstop

The Prime Minister's set to continue her two day visit to Northern Ireland later with a major speech in Belfast.

Theresa May's expected to call on the EU to "evolve" it's position on the Irish backstop and to discuss the protection of the Good Friday Agreement. 

The EU's current backdrop proposal could mean the creation of a border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom.

Last night Mrs May was joined by DUP Leader Arlene Foster in County Fermanagh to meet with businesses on the Belleek border and discuss cross border trading. 

However it's still unclear if a North-South border can be avoided, after the commons guaranteed no border in the Irish sea.

Following the discussions, Arlene Foster insisted "we're not missing a trick" by trying to keep the back-stop arrangement: 

The SDLP also held a meeting with the Prime Minister yesterday and the party's Deputy Leader pressed her on economic issues: 

Theresa May will deliver her speech at Belfast's Waterfront Hall later this morning.
