A shop worker has been threatened with a knife during an armed robbery in Newtownards.

It happened at an off licence on Movilla Street shortly before 7.55pm.

A masked man entered the property and demanded money, before making off with cash towards the town centre.

The woman working there was not injured but was left badly shaken.

Meanwhile, the suspect is described as being between 5'8" and 5'10" in height and of slim build.

He's believed to have been wearing a dark coloured top, a balaclava and black gloves.

Detective Sergeant Westbury said, “Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to this incident to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1632 14/01/20.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
