A serving PSNI officer has been arrested as part of investigations into the inapropriate use of social media.
He was detained as the result of a police ombudsman investigation.
It's after claims officers were using social media platforms under anonymous titles to discuss active investigations.
The investigation is also looking into allegations of racist and sectarian posts.
A statement from the Ombudsmans office said the probe was initiated after a decision by the Police Ombudsman, Dr Michael Maguire, to "call himself in" to investigate information he has been made aware of.
The Police Ombudsman's Office is also dealing with a number of complaints it received in recent weeks from members of the public, which include allegations that officers have leaked confidential information and posted abusive comments on social media.
