Workers at an engineering firm in Derry are due to meet this afternoon to discover the future of the company.

Administrators were appointed to Schivo Northern Ireland last week, leaving over 80 staff members fearing for their jobs.

The precision engineering company manufacture components for aerospace firms such as Boeing.

Formerly Maydown Precision Engineering, the business was bought over by the Waterford-based company 18 months ago.

A spokesperson for Schivo NI said:

"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of management and considerable investment, we have been unable to turn around Schivo NI Ltd.

All other companies in Schivo Group are unaffected and continue to operate as normal.

"We are supporting our colleagues at Schivo NI during this process and thank them for their dedication to the turnaround we undertook.

"We hope to be able to provide clarity on the future of the site as soon as possible."
