The PSNI has issued advise for runners following complaints in the Ballyarnett area of Derry - Londonderry.

Officers are urging runners to take note of the Highway Code and run on a pavement if one is available.

They've also warned drivers to share the road and keep their cool when considering confronting a runner.

You can read their advise below:

RUNNERS
1. If there is a pavement use it! (Rule 1-Highway Code)
2. If NO pavement keep on the right of road - if there are a few of you go SINGLE FILE (Rule 2 HC)
3. Wear Hi-Vis clothing (Rule 3 HC)
4. LARGE GROUP - if there is no pavement keep on left side of road, wear Hi-Vis and have a spotter at the front and back (Rule 5 HC)
5. Not allowed on Motorway!
6. Careful of JAYWALKING - if you step out into traffic that could be £30 fine. Just be careful
7. Be considerate of other road users
8. If a motorist wrongs you note the Number Plate and ring 101

DRIVERS
1. Roads are not just for cars
2. Careful turning into a road. If there is already a runner crossing that road they have priority (Rule 170 HC)
3. Give a runner on the road SPACE. Pretend they are the size of a car!
4. THINK before you confront a runner. Is your shouting and swearing putting them in fear of violence (Common Assault). Are others witnessing your bad language and behaviour (Disorderly Behaviour)
