Police have issued a specific appeal for information after the murder of Mark Ponisi in east Belfast.

The 53-year-old was found at a flat on London Road on Saturday.

Detectives want to speak to the driver of a taxi thought to have picked up three men and a woman in the city centre at 2 that morning.

He dropped them on London Road, and officers believe he may have details which could prove vital to their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: “We believe this taxi driver may have information that could prove vital to our investigation and would appeal directly to him to contact the investigation team at Musgrave Street by calling 101 and asking for extension 17712.

“We would also renew our appeal to anyone with information about the this brutal crime to contact the incident room at Musgrave Police Station.”
