Online campaign raises over £5,000 for the family of Jack Glenn

An online campaign has raised over £5,000 for the family of a young man who entered the River Foyle.

Jack Glenn is understood to have entered the water on Thursday morning. 

His family has led thousands of people on tireless searches along the river banks ever since. 

Campaign organiser Bryan Keenan said he was inspired to raise funds for the family after learning of the 23 year old's dad Colin's interest in biking, he said:

"I run a Facebook group called maiden city bikers. We have just under 200 members so when I heard jacks dad was a biker I thought it would be nice if we could do something as a group.

"I shared the post on my own Facebook page too and it's snowballed from there, I originally set the fund aim at £200 thinking I would be lucky to get that, it's now over £5,000 and not due to end until next month."

Almost 300 people have contributed to the fund which has raised £5,045 to date. 

Bryan said the response has been 'overwhelming':

"I'm lost for words to be honest but if it shows anythings its that this city isn't nearly as divided as some people would have us believe."

The search for the 23 year old will continue this morning with groups leaving from the Peace Bridge at Ebrington Square every hour from 9am.
