Offensive graffiti  has been daubed on a pro-Israel mural in Belfast.

It happened in the Northumberland Street area sometime between yesterday evening and the early hours of this morning.

Anyone who has any information about the attack is being urged to come forward.

North Belfast MLA William Humphrey has been to visit the scene.

"I'm applied that sick, evil people have sprayed grossly offensive anti-Semitic  graffiti on a pro-Israel mural in Northumberland St. Those responsible are not reflective of Belfast and having nothing to offer our society or this city.

Belfast is an increasingly diverse city. Our small but growing Jewish community is the oldest and much valued minority community in the city. The Jewish community has and continues to make an important contribution to the religious, cultural, commercial and business life of Belfast.

As a North Brlfast MLA, I stand with and fully support Belfast's Jewish community, many of whom are dear friends. All right thinking people must condemn this evil act.

Anyone with information which may help the police catch those responsible must pass it on to the police.

I have contacted Belfast City Council and the PSNI."
