The Irish mother of a teenager who died on holiday in Malaysia claims police were slow to act on the possibility she could have been abducted.

15 year old Nora Anne Quoirin’s disappearance from her family’s cottage at the Dusun eco-resort in southern Negeri Sembilan state on August 4 last year sparked a massive search operation.

The 15-year-old’s naked body was discovered on August 13 beside a small stream about 1.6 miles from the resort.

Meabh Quoirin has told an inquest into her death that she believes there's a strong chance her daughter was taken.

"Whether it was deliberate or not; whether she was specifically targeted or not, I couldn't possibly say - that would be total speculation," she told the inquest, giving evidence by video link from her home in London.

"But I have a number of very precise reasons to believe my daughter was kidnapped," Nora's mother continued.

Nora's father,Sebastien, is due to give evidence at the inquest tomorrow tomorrow.

Nora's funeral service was held at St Brigid’s church in south Belfast in September, the church where she was baptised.
