A man has been treated in hospital after what police have called a 'paramilitary style assault' in west Belfast.

The shooting happened at Creeslough Walk in the Lenadoon area shortly after 8.15pm.

Detective Sergeant Gardiner from the PSNI said: “Shortly after 8:15pm, it was reported to police that two men dressed in dark clothes brought a man into an alleyway in the area. It was reported the men then shot the man in his left leg. The men are believed to have made off towards the Suffolk Road area following the incident.

“The man, aged in his 40’s was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

“Enquiries are continuing and at this stage, we are treating this shooting incident as a paramilitary style assault. Those responsible for this barbaric act do not represent the interests of this community, nor do they contribute anything to it. They do it to try and exert influence, or gain control of those they claim to represent.

“An investigation is underway and I would urge anyone with any information to call detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1619 25/10/20.
"Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
