The Deputy Leader of Britain First has defended a controversial video from the chambers of Belfast City Council.

Jayda Fransen was filmed sitting in the Lord Mayor's chair on Monday wearing full council robes.

In the clip she thanked supporters of the far- right group and updated them on a court case she's facing in the city.

In an exclusive interview with Q Radio News, the deputy leader of the far right-wing group says it's pushing ahead with plans to expand in Northern Ireland and contest elections here.

Despite the social media backlash from her actions - the 31 year-old defends her actions and believes she did nothing wrong:

Jayda Fransen was told this week she would go to trial in April for a speech made at the 'Northern Ireland Against Terrorism ' rally outside Belfast City Hall last summer.

She faces four unrelated charges after alleged threatening behaviour concerning remarks made on December 13 beside a peace wall dividing Catholics from Protestants in Belfast.

The comments, about Islam, were posted on social media in another video shot in the staunchly unionist Shankill area of west Belfast but a date for that trial is yet to be fixed.

Fransen, from Anerley in south-east London faced further critisism this week after posting the video of herself in the Lord Mayor's chair.

Belfast City Council says it is investigating the incident.

"I think they all need to put this in to perspective and stop the witch-hunt against Britain First" said Ms.Fransen in an exclusive interview with QRadio.

The leader of the group in Northern Ireland also confirmed plans are in place to try and expand here.

"We have some great plans. We have a huge amount of political activity planned, especially here in Northern Ireland."

The visit to the council chamber was facilitated by the Independent Unionist Councillor Jolene Bunting, who's also facing critisism.

On Tuesday, Councillor Bunting told QRadio the entire situation had been blown 'out of proportion' and insisted they had done nothing wrong.
