An investigation is underway after a man suffered serious injuries as a result of falling from a climbing wall at Foyle Arena in Derry/Londonderry.

The incident happened last Monday evening.

It's understood the man involved fell from a considerable height and broke several bones in his legs and ankles.

Two ambulances were called to the scene and he was taken to Altnagelvin hospital for treatment.

Derry City and Strabane District Council confirmed the man did become injured while using the climbing wall at the leisure centre,  but did not give any details of what caused the man to fall or the extent of his injuries.

A spokesperson for the council also confirmed that an investigation is now underway to find out what happened.
