The family of a young GAA player who passed away suddenly has set up a fundraising page in his memory.

Kevin King collapsed and later died while playing indoor football with friends earlier this month.

The 22 year old from Tamnherin was popular in the GAA community and played football for his local club, Slaughtmanus.

His brother Martin King has launched a campaign to raise funds and awareness of heart conditions, such as myocardial fibrosis.

On a British Heart Foundation fundraising page, Martin said:

"To be taken so suddenly from me, Mum and Dad has been a massive blow. He was a big part of our lives.

"We are heartened by the love and support of family, friends and the GAA community, especially Kevin's club Slaughtmanus.

"Words will never be enough to say how we feel but what we saw of your generosity and respect since Kevin's death has been overwhelming and humbling for our family.

"Kevin lived life to the full and always made time for anyone. In the past few days we realise how big a gift he was to the wider community who came to say goodbye and send messages of support locally and from afar.

"We are incredibly proud as a family to have called him a son and brother. May his memory live on through those of you who play sport. We will never forget what you have done for me, Mum and Dad.

"In memory of Kevin, we would like to start the process of raising funds to help those who research heart conditions such as myocardial fibrosis.

"If we could help prevent another family from experiencing the sudden loss of a loved one, it would be a triumph in this time of sadness."

Almost £4,000 has been raised so far to help fund research projects across the UK.
