Foyle Search and Rescue respond to three riverside incidents in 14 hours

Three men were brought to safety after Foyle Search and Rescue (FSR) respond to three riverside incidents in 14 hours. 

The organisation's Emergency Response Team were alerted to a man on the wrong side of the railings at the River Foyle at around 1.14am in the early hours of Monday morning. 

Both mobile and boat units were deployed with officers from the PSNI locating the man and removing him to safety. 

Less than four hours later Emergency Response Team (ERT) pagers were activated to reports of another man observed on the wrong side of the railings.

The man had returned to the right side of the railings and was spotted leaving the scene before emergency services arrived on site.

However, he was discovered a short time later and taken to safety.

A member of the public raised contacted Foyle Search and Rescue's Prehen Base shortly before 3pm on Tuesday afternoon to report a third man in distress were alerted to a third man in distress close to the railings lining the River Foyle.

A spokesperson for the organisation said:

"Base Pager alarm was activated with ERT and 2nd Response Teams who were present at base responding immediately. Mobile crew arrived at scene supported by boat crew with PSNI arriving on scene.

"FSR mobile and land crew communicated with a distressed male at the scene, being assisted by 2 members of the public.

"After 20 minutes the male was removed to safety and then onward to Hospital.

"FSR would like to acknowledge the members of the public who reported the incident and remained with the male until he was safely removed from the scene."
