Foyle Search and Rescue (FSR) has issued advice to people joining the search for Jack Glenn.

Thousands have turned out to help find the 23 year old since he entered the River Foyle almost two weeks ago

However, volunteers are being warned not to put themselves or others at risk.

FSR were alerted to a person in the water at around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The PSNI activated the organisation's Emergency Response Team after receiving reports that a person was in difficulty and waving their arms.

On arrival volunteers noted the man was part of the search party and had been scouring the river bank when he became stuck in mud and was unable to move.

A spokesperson for Foyle Search and Rescue said:

"FSR have been made aware of four persons who have got into difficulties while out searching. Two managed to release themselves after great difficulty, loosing their footwear.

"[We] would appeal to anyone out searching to adhere exactly to the safety guidelines provided, as the preservation of life and your personal safety is of the highest importance."
