A flood alleviation project is set to be rolled out at Sheelin Park in Derry.
Residents had raised concerns over flooding in the area during heavy rainfall.
Councillor Eric McGinley said:
“NI Water has examined this issue and accepted the need for some measures to be put in place to alleviate the difficulties being faced by residents.
“The measures will involve the placing of a number of combined sewer and associated manholes on the Coshquin Road which should reduce the risk of localised flooding in the area.
“The work will also involve the closure of Coshquin Road though vehicular access for residents will be maintained as much as possible.
“Whilst there will be some inconvenience and disruption during the work period this is a much needed scheme for the residents in the area and I welcome NI Water’s intervention.”
Work is expected to begin on the project this week and continue for 3 weeks with a break between 24th December and 9thJanuary inclusive.
