The Northern Ireland Fire Service (NIFRS) has praised the actions of a Derry man who saved two people from a burning building in Derry.

Sean McLaughlin was passing close to the property at Altcar Park in Galliagh when the sounds of a smoke alarm alerted him to the blaze.

Fire crews were called to reports of a fire at the property shortly before 10.20pm on Saturday 25th February.

However, the 33-year-old ran into the burning bungalow and pulled the two people to safety before the crews had arrived at the scene.

NIFRS say the cause of the fire, which started in a bedroom in the property, was accidental.

The occupants, a man and woman, are in a stable condition in hospital.
