Derry – Londonderry has picked up two top horticultural awards at the Translink Ulster in Bloom competition.
Colourful flower baskets along the Queens Quay helped secure the top spot, beating Belfast in the competitions City Category.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock said:
‘Our plant and floral presentations, grass cutting and cleansing regimes are important in presenting the city and district as a welcoming place to visitors and they help communities develop a sense of civic pride.”
Transink’s Foyle Street depot was named ‘Best Station’ at the ceremony with the Garden of Reflection also awarded a special recognition prize.
The annual awards show judges cities, towns and villages on their floral displays.
2016 saw 156 entries across each of Northern Ireland’s 11 local councils.
Derry~Londonderry will now take part in the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom competition on 14th October 2016.
