Derry City and Strabane District Council are inviting you to go where no man, woman or child has gone before this Halloween.

The once worldwide reputation of our celebrations has now been taken to infinity and beyond with confirmation that a group of aliens from outer space will set up camp here this year to take part in the celebrations.

The ‘Out of this World’ invaders, believed to be from a number of planets including Mars and the recently discovered Proxima B, will transform Derry’s Craft Village into a ‘Craft Planet’ from Friday 28th until Monday 31st October and they want you to come along and join the party.

As well as a number of free Halloween themed activities including face painting and balloon modelling from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday and Monday, Craft Planet will feature live music on the Main Stage from the Magwere Band from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday and Thumpin’ Jellyfish at the same time on Monday with refreshments available.

All weekend the North West Carnival Initiative will help illuminate the area with an array of space themed lanterns, video projections and sound installations as part of the ‘Awakening the Walls’ trail around the City’s walls.

“We already have a global reputation as the official Best Halloween Destination in the World but our 30th Anniversary celebrations are so big this year that they have attracted interest from around the solar system and beyond,” confirmed Council’s Festival and Events Officer Sharon Meenan.

“The Alien visitors are friendly and they would love to see as many people as possible coming along to look around the planet and take part in the activities.”

Jim Collins from the North West Carnival Initiative has been working hard on the ‘Awakening the Walls’ illuminations element of the transformation.

“Over the last number of weeks creative folk from in and around the Craft Village have been busy preparing illuminations that will brighten the darkness of Samhain,” he said.

“Artists resident in the Craft Village, NWCI and trainees from Derry Youth and Community workshop have created a light spectacle fit for any visitor be that local, international or extra-terrestrial.”
