A Derry and Strabane District Councillor has been arrested in connection with the murder of Denis Donaldson.

Gary Donnelly was arrested in county Donegal yesterday and is believed to be in Custody in Letterkenny.

Mr.Donaldson was a senior Sinn Fein figure who operated as an MI5 spy at the heart of the IRA and the party.

He was shot dead at his isolated cottage near Glenties in April 2006, just four months after being exposed and expelled from the party.

The Real IRA claimed responsibility for the killing at the time.

Mr.Donelly was arrested and released without charge in connection with the murder seven years ago.

It's understood he's currently being questioned on suspicion of firearm offences linked to the murder.
